13 Aug 1808
Job VICKERMAN of Earlsheaton & James NEWSOME did, on Monday night last, assault and obstruct Mr Thomas NIGHTINGALE, Constable of Dewsbury and Joseph HOWGATE jnr, his deputy, in the execution of their duty, for which they have threatened to prosecute us, but upon promising never to do so again, and our paying for this advertisment in the Leeds Mercury, and all other expenses, besides giving ten shillings to the poor of Dewsbury, they have agreed to forgive us, and for the above offence we do so in this public manor ask their pardon - dated this second day of August in the year of our Lord 1808 .
